UPDATE AS OF FEBRUARY 4, 2024

Over the next couple of days, California is expected to face an atmospheric river event, bringing heavy rainfall, severe winds, and significant risks of flooding and mudslides along the entire coast. The Weather Prediction Center has used a Level 3 risk for rainfall for much of coastal California, and a rare level 4 risk for excessive rainfall in Santa Barbara and Oxnard.

In accordance with information and advice provided by local authorities, we would like to inform you, that as of this evening, campus will remain open on Monday, February 5th, with classes and services to be held as scheduled. Please be aware that Ventura College is actively monitoring the weather conditions, and if they worsen significantly, a decision to close the campus may be made. In such a scenario, timely communication will be provided before 7:00 am on Monday, February 5th.

Students and employees who reside in areas significantly impacted by the storm are encouraged to follow the safety protocols enacted by local officials, exercise caution when commuting to campus, and use their best judgement in decisions regarding their safety in coming to campus. If you are driving to campus from another region, please check the Caltrans website for any possible road closures and give yourself plenty of extra time to drive safely.

If you do not feel safe coming to campus for class or work due to the weather conditions, please contact your instructor and/or supervisor. Faculty are strongly encouraged to be flexible with students impacted by the weather, and to instruct students to prioritize their safety.

The District and College leadership have been monitoring this situation closely over the past few days, working with local officials to inform our decisions regarding this event and ensure the safety and wellbeing of our college community. During the storm, remain alert, and for campus updates and emergency communications, visit VC Alerts.
Wishing everyone in our community safety and comfort as we navigate through this storm.
